Songs of the Decade

Baton Rouge-With apps like Spotify and Soundcloud, we have millions of songs at our fingertips. This can be really overwhelming-especially with all the good choices. To help you out, I’ve compiled the best songs of the 2010’s for you.

Billboard, who ranks songs according to their popularity and how many times they are played, gives us the following top 10:

  1. 2010-“Tik Tok” by Ke$ha
    • A song that relates to girls and is played at many parties where people get very hype.
  2. 2011-“Rolling in the Deep” by Adele
    • A very inspiring song for all people who were going through some type of struggle caused by heartbreak.
  3. 2012-“Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye featuring Kimbra
    • A song about a person who has just gone through a travesty because of heartbreak.
  4. 2013-“Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz
    • This may be the song of the decade because of its randomness and the joy it brought many people because of the upbeat rhythm.
  5. 2014-“Happy” by Pharrell Williams
    • An all-time great to play in the car with your family or friends because everyone knows the words.
  6. 2015-“Uptown Funk!” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars
    • Another all-time great car song because of its catchiness.
  7. 2016-“Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber
    • This song was a way for the Bieb’s to get back in the music game and show the world that he is still a great producer.
  8. 2017-“Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran
    • This song took the world by storm because it appeals to all people who were going through a very tough loss.
  9. 2018-“God’s Plan” by Drake
    • A great song and everyone should like it.
  10. 2019-“Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus
    • A song that has taken over many parties and gets everyone in the crowd extremely hyped up.

Even though those songs are very good, I personally do not believe that they are the number one song from each year of the past decade. My picks are:

  1. 2010-“Fireflies” by Owl City
    • The greatest song I have ever heard in my life. That’s it.
  2. 2011-“All of the Lights” by Kanye West
    • Probably Kanye’s best song from his pre-Jesus days.
  3. 2012-“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen
    • A great song to dance to even though it is very cheesy.
  4. 2013-“Royals” by Lorde
